Mrs MBELLA MBELLA has led a delegation of CERAC women to the Mfou Main Prison on Thursday 30 April 2026 to console and condole with inmates in a solidarity gesture.

On behalf of the founding president of CERAC-(Circle des Amis du Cameroun or Circle of Friends of Cameroon) Mrs Chantal BIYA, First Lady of Cameroon, Marguerite MBELLA MBELLA, Deputy General Coordinator in charge of the Diplomatic wing of CERAC together with the big delegation that accompanied her, has offered goods and assistance like basic food stuffs, medical equipment, hygiene and sanitation tools, vocational training items, etc. A special gift constituted of a cow as heavy as 350 kg was also offered to inmates by Mrs Chantal BIYA. These gifts are geared towards supporting governments’ efforts in ameliorating conditions of detention and assuring minimum care to prison inmates.

Prior to this, within the framework of the implementation plan 2026 plan of action of CERAC, in collaboration with ASCOVIM, a non-governmental organisation, prison administration under the supervision of Superintendent of Mfou Main Prison MESSINA Bertin Marie and Dr NKEM EFON Kevin, Head of the Health Monitoring Service of Penitentiary Administration for the Centre region revealed that a total of 720 inmates had been examined and those found sick were administered free medication. The severe cases were referred to specialised institutes for appropriate care.

This initiative falls in straight line with government efforts, together with its partners and other people of goodwill to support the humanisation of prison institutions and assuring decent living conditions to detainees despite the challenges faced.
