It is exactly 17 days since member of the Police Escort of the Minister of State, Minister of Justice, Keeper of Seals, Armel BANDO NEUBEU, passed away. Yet, colleagues, family members, friends, acquaintances and sympathisers refuse to believe that he is truly no more.
The popular First-Grade Police Inspector sadly dropped dead on Friday 15 August 2025 after a brief illness, leaving all and sundry in consternation and shock. BANDO had answered present for duty the previous day.
Born on 28 June 1987 in Dimako, East region of Cameroon, the deceased originally hailed from Ngoro, a village near Bafia, Mbam-et-Inoubou Division of the Centre region.
Using remarkably unique gentle, jovial, sociable and generous mannerisms, BANDO built a vast community of friendship within the police corps, the Ministry of Justice, its surroundings, his neighbourhood – Mvan, and many other places. He loved his job, including driving, and exercised it with passion. No doubt he died in the line-of-duty.
BANDO connected with and touched the lives of people and strangers in a special way. This explains the storms of reactions and emotions which have, and continue to follow his demise. While his mortal remains lie at the Central Hospital Mortuary – Yaoundé awaiting burial, colleagues, family members and friends, have initiated tributes. One of which is the wearing of round chest badges bearing BANDO’s picture.
Upon graduation from the Police College Mutengene in 2010, he was posted at the Directorate General for External Research (DGRE). From DGRE, he joined the No. 1 Mobile Intervention Unit of the Centre region (GMI). Subsequently, he was transferred to Man O’ War Bay Limbe to work with La Police Camerounaise Delta. Two years later, he returned to Yaoundé to join the Special Rapid Intervention Unit (ESIR). In 2016, he was posted to the Ministry of Justice as Police Escort to the Minister of State, Laurent ESSO.
